During the last week in October, citizens, elected officials, business leaders, and city staffers will take part in an intense workshop to chart paths for future development in Post Falls. This particular style of workshop is called a “charrette”, and the town has called in the PlaceMakers consulting group to organize the process and provide technical expertise on design, engineering, traffic and transit issues, and the latest in zoning codes.
The process actually begins in advance with a Visual Preference Survey (VPS), where folks throughout Post Falls are encouraged to share their opinions of different types of built and natural environments with a simple, 15-minute online questionnaire. By tracking opinions across the entire community, the VPS allows planning to become more participatory, democratic and market responsive. When you’re ready, you can begin the survey by clicking here.
The goal of the charrette is to produce inspiring but realistic plans for Post Falls, as we face a future ripe with both opportunities and challenges. The guiding principles for the charrette and for the plans and strategies that emerge are derived from priorities set by Post Falls citizens themselves.
Those priorities are: sensible growth, real neighborhoods, and vibrant community.
Watch this space for further information, details about the charrette schedule, and opportunities for direct involvement in this historic process. During charrette week, we’ll even post daily updates of the process as it evolves.
So, be sure to check back regularly.
